Can I get a refund if I need to cancel my participation with Youth In Mission?
Unfortunately, when a contribution is made to “General Treasurer - Church of the Nazarene,” that donation is considered a charitable gift. A receipt is issued for charitable contributions and as such, a refund cannot be issued. In some cases, participants have been allowed to apply contributions intended for their expenses to be applied to another participant’s fundraising efforts.
What are my chances of getting selected?
Youth In Mission believes that ministry happens best in teams; teams that are made up of qualified individuals with complementary gifts, strengths and life experiences. Participants are placed on a team with other individuals, some who may know each other and some who may be total strangers. Participants will be expected to live, work, and minister with each other 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 8 weeks. Participants will be asked to get along with and appreciate people who are different from them.
Youth In Mission operates under the Kingdom value of community. Applicants’ chances of getting accepted are highly likely if they are a mature, growing Christian with a heart for ministry and fit the team that has been selected for the particular sites being applied for.
In rare situations, applicants are either referred to other mission organizations/opportunities or are asked to postpone their participation. In these cases, Youth In Mission prayerfully takes into consideration the current life experience of the applicant as well as the dynamics of the ministry site and the other participants. While Youth In Mission is esteemed as one of the leading mission-sending agencies for young adults, there are multiple organizations that are highly valued and missiologically excellent. Together, we partner in our efforts to fulfill the Great Commission.
How big are the teams that I will be placed on?
Youth In Mission teams range in size anywhere from 3 to 8 members. Increasingly, teams partner with additional team members who are recruited and trained at the ministry site or from the region of the world where the team will be serving. The larger, combined team will function and minister as a fully operative team – not two separate teams.
What is the policy on attendance of weddings/other events?
A number of students always ask about the possibility of leaving Training Camp or their ministry assignment to be a part of a wedding or other family oriented events. Because we are bringing many students together for a shared experience, our policy is that we do not allow students to attend weddings/other events during Training Camp, during their summer ministry, or during our Re-Entry Camp. Whenever a team member leaves, the dynamics of the YIM experience are significantly altered. We offer you our regrets, but realize that ministry often includes uncomfortable sacrifice.
